Sentinel has been a prominent participant in the US real estate marketplace since its formation in 1969. In 1970, the company formed SB Partners, its first commingled fund for individual investors, and six years later, introduced its first commingled fund for institutional investors. In 1987, Sentinel’s first institutional separate account was established. Sentinel Trust Company was chartered in 1989 to provide trust services to clients, and Sentinel Realty Advisors Corporation was established in 1990.
Sentinel Investment Advisors (Bermuda) was established in 1995 to advise on, and engage in, cross-border real estate transactions for domestic and international clients. Sentinel Securities Corporation was founded in 1997 to manage portfolios of real estate securities on a global basis. The Sentinel Property Fund, a residential REIT for domestic investors, was established in 2002. Sentinel US Property Fund, Inc., a private REIT to facilitate foreign investments in US multifamily communities was established in 2004.
In 2005, Sentinel formed its first insurance dedicated fund allowing insurance companies to create annuity and life insurance products backed by a portfolio of Sentinel managed real estate securities and direct investments. Most recently, in 2006, Sentinel launched Gotham City Residential Partners I, allowing offshore investors and others to invest in the New York apartment market.
